Is a healthy population just nice to have, or are there bigger issues such as economic growth and social cohesion.

Better perhaps to concentrate on the pharmaceutical and medical industries that can run out of control, as in the US, rather than squeezing the poor.

Well said Yvette. The really big cost savings are currently sitting out there waiting to be made in the pharmaceutical industry. In terms of primary care expenses let’s abolish what we know to be unscientific. No more medicare funding of acupuncture, chiropractic or osteopathy ( and the radiology costs they generate). Pressure private health insurance to offer packages which don’t include quackery such as naturopathy. Dramatically re align mental health care so it serves those who need it not those who want it.
