I’d definitely ike to see a more thorough report into the Baker deal. How did sanofi think they would get away with it? And are the staff at Baker so oblivious not to see how funding is this manner is not a good idea?

Melissa, why don’t you do it yourself? Journalism is pretty easy: just pick up the phone, ask some questions, then write down the answers. Rinse and repeat.

The problem, Mr Twain, is not the doing – it’s the funding. I’d be keen to do either of these stories. Finding a publisher willing to pay for them to be done is another matter. That’s why I thought it worth putting the ideas out there, in case any potential funders had a nibble. But at the end of the day, I’d be just as happy if someone else, who has funding, can run with them. BTW, I sometimes wish the doing of journalism was as straightforward as doing the washing, although I guess it might then get boring…

Sorry Melissa but that is horsesh*t. If you have a good story with legs, you can sell it to a publisher. They will pay by the word, which I suspect is your problem. The idea is to follow up the story on your own time and not wait until you find a publisher willing to pay your hotel bills. Journalism 101.
